Colorado OES Challenge

This year we are sponsoring three opportunities to participate in events that are designed to be senior-friendly as well as encouraging physical activities for those with restricted capabilities. This will take the form of three virtual races.

Century Mile Challenge

During this time of COVID-19, so many in our senior population have experienced isolation and separation from loved ones, and the activities that in the past have been so much a part of their quality of life.  While we are still experiencing restricted activities due to the continuing presence of COVID-19 we wish to honor and celebrate the lives of those who are most vulnerable in our communities.

This race will celebrate those who have reached the century mark.  Our centurions have seen so many changes in our society and weathered so many storms that we would like to use this opportunity to recognize their contribution and endurance through their lives.  We are asking participants to either walk stroll or with the assistance of someone perform exercise equivalent to a one-mile run.
Awards will be given to our 100-year-old plus members designated as from the participants of the Century Mile Challenge!

5-Star 5K

This will celebrate the five virtues exemplified by the five points of our emblematic star, fidelity. constancy, loyalty, faith, and love.  Participants in this event can, walk, stroll or exercise the equivalent of a 5K run.

 

Walking with the Stars

As we consider our seniors to be our guiding stars and wish to recognize their valuable contribution of love and light, inspiration, and wisdom to all those who are blessed by their presence.  Participants in this event will invite a senior citizen to join them.  Perhaps a person who would not otherwise be able to participate because they are wheelchair-bound, use a walker or cane, or maybe they are just slow.  Think about what pleasure you will bring to them to allow them the opportunity to be outside on a sunny day and taking a walk with you.  This event will have a set time limit and the ambulatory participant can either push their partner if wheelchair-bound or assist their partner in going as far as they can within the given time frame.

The first 50 OES or affiliated group members to sign up will receive as a bonus a "Shooting Star" Eastern Star pin.

What a great opportunity to get out an exercise for a cause or help someone who has not been able to get out on their own.  Let’s celebrate Spring by getting outside with your friend, neighbor, family member or acquaintance to do the same. So, let’s all get together, raise some money for a good cause and most of all celebrate those who have, in the twilight of their years been so negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
